I have a 74 cj5 that I'm installing power steering. I have the pump & all brackets. Can I use any year Saginaw steering box or does it have to be from a CJ?

There's been lots of discussion of this in the past, if you search.

I'm running a waggy box its has a larger piston than the cj box and its great. Pretty much one finger parallel parking! If you get the right year it has the same splines as the manual steering shaft.

    care to share your information
it was my understanding that p/s has larger diameter shafts on both ends
so maunal pitman arm and/or bell/rag coupler won't work

    Jpflat2a,
i think its a pre 78 version with flare fittings, i spent some time in the napa store looking up the spline counts for the various years.(Guy in the store was glad to help) But i had o ring pump so i needed a later model box which had a different spline count, which required me to change the lower u joint on my flaming river shaft.

It has been two years since i did it so i may be a little rusty.

On another note i have had no problems using just three of the box mounting bolts.
