On the 1973 258 6 cyl. the heater hose connections at the engine are different sizes. They look to me that one is 3/4 and the other, ( to the pump), is 1". I'm trying to hook up the water hose connections on an '82 intake from the pump and goose neck connections. Can anybody tell me if I'm correct on the hose sizes I need? :?
    Thanks,
    Rick

Yeah, there different sizes amc used a special hose with a 3/4 end and a 1in end. I use just able to jam the 3/4 on the 1in fitting with a little soap to help.

Huh. This is surprising - A 1" ID hose is larger than any standard heater hose. I thought that you would have one hose that is 3/4" ID and the other would be 5/8" ID. Those are the two standard sizes from the parts store. My pickup has both sizes, and there is a way to route the hoses so that both ends connect to the correct size nipple, without a fancy 2-size hose.

I'd suggest you get out your calipers and measure all the nipples. The smooth part of each nipple, beyond the initial lip, should be very close to the nominal size for the hose.

Well Tim, probably the 3/4 hose will get onto the water pump fitting. The others most likely would work with 5/8" hose. I just wasn't sure about the water pump hose connector size. Putting a ruler across it gives 1" but like you say, it's not a typical heater hose size. I'll give the 3/4" a shot and come up with a reducer, if necessary, for the manifold end that measures 5/8". I was just concerned that I was missing something on the sizes.
Thanks to both for the responses, :coffee:

By the way, the measurements I gave were at the lip, not behind it. The hose dimensions you stated will probably fit on OK.
