hey boys- anyone out there ever see a stude v8 in a early cj5? i have found an early 60s stude with a v8 3 spd w/ od. it is a lwb, kinda funny made truck with a straight front axle & a sliding back glass that the out board glasses slides inward. pretty good shape but with rusty floors. i have 2 cj5, one is looking like an m38a1 & the other i thought id hot rod. my brother n law wants to sell his 73 cj5, i know it would fit better in there but i didnt want to buy ANOTHER jeep. as soon as it drys up im gonna go see if the engine is stuck & go from there. thanks!

The Studebaker trucks are kind of cool as they are... floors aren't that hard to repair. Sort of like the Binder trucks; homely, in an endearing way.

The Studebaker engines are great, but I expect they would be outrageously expensive to rebuild. Check the Kantor site for parts prices. Plus, I understand the Studebaker motors are in demand for other Studebakers, so it may be hard to justify economically putting a Studebaker motor into anythng but another Studebaker.

i know, i know- its "not practical", like my perkins jeep engine or the 5.9 cummins in my halftrack. but it would be cool, wouldnt it?

Downside is the Stude V8 is heavy and doesn't produce much in the way of power. Upside would be the coolness factor.

Sounds like it has a lot in common with the gen-1 AMC V8s ... large heavy block, lots of bearing area, steel crank & rods. I thought the AMCs make good power for their displacement. I would expect Studebaker to make power on par with its peers from the era.

i think this engine will be a 259 or a 289 cube engine. i can remember my folks saying how smooth those engines run when they were talking engines. yeah it looks like the old fat block 318 Chrysler engine to me. im just thinking out loud.
