I will be trying to start my rebuilt 225 oddfire in the somewhat near future. I want to preprime the engine. I am thinking of getting an oil pump primer tool such as this one.

I have read about a couple ways to proceed. Do you just remove the dist. and use the tool until oil comes out the rocker, or do you have to keep rotating the engine to different spots as you do it?

    Thanks

Remove distro - spin till you get oil in rockers - both sides. You got it.

If it wont prime, you are probably running the drill the wrong direction. Pump on 225 turns clockwise IIRC.

I actually have a shaft I made that fits in the oil pump (I made it for Chevy) and chuck it up in a 1/2" drill. Yep, spin it until you see oil in the rockers...

You may not need a special tool. Maybe you could find a steel or aluminum rod and beat on one end until it fits in the oil pump shaft slot.
