Did a search but didn't find much on this. I am rebuilding my f-head and getting ready to put the crank in. Turns out there are 5 of these dowels in the main bearing caps (2 in 2 of the caps and 1 in the other) that I never noticed during disassembly. 2 of the 5 came back from the machine shop and I figure the other 3 are in the bottom of their hot tank if I had to guess. I'll check tomorrow, or see if I can find replacements. My question is which way do these things go in the assembly? Does the smaller diameter side go towards the crank or towards the block or outside of the bearing cap?

    Thanks in advance

Big end goes into the hole in the block and just the small end sticks out.
