I was wondering if anyone has some good pictures of the dash pad that came on the 1970 Renegade I? All I have left is the backing plate, and am considering trying to either "rebuild" what I have or try purchase one. Some good close ups, especially of the ends and the areas around the windshield latches would be very helpful. Also, I saw a post that mentioned the 1970/71 dash pad is different than the 1972-1975 dash pad, does anyone have a picture of the later dash pad for comparison? If I try purchasing one, I don't want to get the wrong one.

Here's my dash pad backing plate.

    Hi Mark,
I'd check with org1970cj5 for starters.

'70, not RenI, but I think the same. It's unbolted from the jeep and stored around here somewhere if you need 360* pics:

AFAIK there are two styles of dash pad - the earlier one with a stitched cover, and the later one that appears to be injection molded. The years are roughly 70-73 for the early one, and 74-75 for the later one. The pad that Clint (?) shows above is the later one, that was molded as one piece.

The stitched cover type looks like it was built up over a piece of rigid foam, and the cover sewn together, like upholstery.

My '73 had the earlier one, and both of my '75s have the later type. I'm not sure whether the changeover was in '74 or '75, but the later molded type was at most used for two years.

    Thanks guys.

I found this picture of a dash pad, would this be correct for the early style pad then?

Here ya go from a 71. The stitch is kind of white now, but originaly was black. The material was covered over a molded foam piece.
