When my dad took his '75 CJ5 apart for repainting the steering column dropped
we are now in the process of putting it back together and we cannot find were and how we are spost to mount it back in place
We have looked behind the dash and along the fire wall but everything appears to be in place
the bottom of the steering wheel is currently about 2 inchs above the seat
Heres a bunch of pics if that helps, let me know if more pics are needed
    Thanx in advance

I don't believe that is an original steering column, It doesn't look anything like my 75CJ. It looks as if you have the key in the steering column not on the dash, possibly someone swapped a tilt steering from a Chevy.

I'd guess that's original for the Mahindra.

I wish I could help, but I've never seen a Mahindra, much less have any idea about sorting out the steering.

Hmm, never seen a right side drive CJ. -cool

Definitely a replacement GM style column.

Its missing the original dash flange that went around the original steering column. You can see the four holes in the dash around the column. Not original.

There is a bracket that is part of the pedal assembly directly behind the dash. This would be the only other place to mount the column to.

My guess is that the mounting bracket that came with the column was modified or a new one made to go under the column and mount into the pedal assembly bracket. Kind of like a sling.

You can see the bracket here.

Basically, you are probably missing the bracket that would bolt the column on the pedal assembly bracket behind the dash.

Oh, the other thing to try is that your column is pushed in too far.
As you try to raise it up the column will bind against the dash.
Try to pulling the column out of the dash about an inch as see if that helps.
I ran into the same problem.

You may have to find the play in the steering joints or collaspable column to get the room you need. They probably all went together as soon as you pulled it out.
