There's plenty of information in these links about what's involved: http://www.earlycj5.com/tech/engines/225/225Links.php

If you don't have problems, why bother?

Pertronix are another option. Lots of info here on both the HEI conversion and Pertronix in the forum from past discussions.

Any vacuum advance Buick dist. can be used. If you find a even fire one, you can make it a odd fire in 15 minutes. just follow Sparky's link above.

I installed an hei and did not like the larger size of the distributor. I reinstalled a new stock style distributor with a pertronix pick up and a blaster coil. I like the smaller distributor and I think the preformance is equal to the hei. I also did not like having to grind on the intake manifold to install the hei. If you are looking for a quality high end ditributor I believe mallery makes one. I had a pertronixs pickup in my old distributor on my old v8 blazer for years and it gave me no trouble, loved it, as well as the one on my 225.

Thanks for the info I was just looking at other options thinking the hei would give me a hotter spark = better prefromance. Never thought about just upgrading what I have to get the same results.

HEI probably won't yield any better performance per se. Camshaft, intake, carb, etc. will do that.

HEI will give better cold starts from my experience.
