hey, i was hangin out in the early CJ forum as i own a 67 CJ.. But last week I ran accross a 75 CJ5 Levi's edition that had 14000 original miles and all the original manuals etc, that was in excellent shape.. I scooped it up for a very good price.. Now I have a question for you CJ guru's.. The rear tire carrier has a place to mount two seperate gerry cans.. Has anyone here seen the original in use? I believe some of the hardware is missing and I'd like to duplicate it..

Sounds like a great deal. I have never seen an original tire carrier with 2 jerry can mounts; I won't say it isn't factory, but I'd be suprised. Probably aftermarket, but a period piece (meaning it was purchased seperately - maybe even through the dealer - back in '75). Lets see some pics of it and I'm sure somebody will have some ideas for you...

I'm pretty sure it's factory.. Theguy I bought the jeep from had everything from when he bought it.. As soon as I find my digi-cam I'll get some pics.. Or maybe it isn't a can mount..?

I think the Whitco rack was the official Jeep dealer installed accessory. No cans. The dealers sold a lot of the Kayline racks too. The Kayline rack that I'm familiar with is pictured here: http://www.universal5.com/features/kayline/kayline005.pdf

A Kayline rack could be "original" even if it's not factory equipment.

Well will miracles never cease. I was going through the papers, etc, today that I got with my Jeep and lo & behold there is the parts drawing for the spare tire carrier, and it shows the brackets for the gas cans and how the cans attach.. I think I can make them as they are rather simple.. As soon as I get my digi-cam found I'll post some pics for those interested..
