I will be replacing a 304 with a 401 in a CJ5 and want to freshen up the clutch next payday.

Any of you AMC wizards have a favorite vendor for a clutch kit?

Can I use an 11" kit? How far before its overkill? Or is there no overkill?

Why do some vendor post specific compatible years, arent they all compatible across the AMC block?

I know the 304 flywheel is drilled for the 10.7(?) and 11" clutch. Not sure about the 401, but I would assume it could take the 11" I wopulnd't go with too much of a "racing" style clutch unless you'd like to work on your quads every time you shift. With the 401 perhaps a good "heavy duty" kit would be good. I have a feelign that even the stock could handle the 401 in a cj.

I went to my local parts store (old-time joint with squeaky wood floors). I don't need a high performance clutch, because of the way I drive.

They got me an AC Delco clutch kit (10 1/2" ??) for around $200.00. It included an alignment tool.
