    Had serious brake issues before:
My fronts seemed to stop the jeep, not the rears, but the front wheel cylinders kept leaking all the fluid, not the rears. When the front system bled empty I found out the rears did not stop the jeep at all. On top of this, the e-brake never worked worth a damn (cables did pull, but did not hold vehicle)

    So, I replaced EVERYTHING:
Turned drums, 4 new wheel cylinders, all new brake shoes, all new hardware. Bled system (farthest tire working towards closest), adjusted brakes (till slight resistance against drum). Master cylinder was replaced about 3 years ago.

    The outcome and the problem:
First, when tightening lug nuts (up on jack stands still) my wife hit brake pedal lightly; fronts locked, and nuts were tight. When I moved to the back, she had to hit the brake harder, tire still spun, hit it harder, still spun, she put all her strength, pushing off roll cage and seat to stop the tire. Test drive fronts stop and lock, not rears. When I press the pedal quickly, it gets firm right away, then sinks just a bit more-kinda squishy feel after it firms up.

    Ideas???

Kinda narrows it down to the brake lines.

ok, ok, both ideas worth checking out...
well, i'll be honest, wife is a keeper!

i actually thought about the lines. i figured when i do my frame/suspension swap, i would be replacing all brake and fuel lines.

could it be some sort of blockage in the line, or a kink? they were FLOWING all clean and strong when bleeding/flushing the lines...

i am considering putting in new master cylinder again??? my friend got me one for my birthday, thinking i needed it, i just felt it was unnecassary.

bleed brakes again and and maybe set rears up with more drag. they will just burn in quickly so they drag a little not a race car.......... and maybe bleed the master again . no work for me today our job is under snow!

ok, i'll give it another shot. it was hard to test brakes last night in rain anyways, hard rain and hail, and remember, i have no top or windshield

been working last 5 days under tarps and still getting wet as hell.

by the way, jeep is down temporarily for new headers-DELIVERED TODAY! so once those are on, i can road test brakes again.

***forgot to mention, when i do bleed the brakes, with the lid off master cylinder, when pressing the brake pedal, the reservoir for the rear will squirt up a bit-even shoot out of the unit if pressed hard/fast, the front just churns a bit. i never thought about it much, but could that be a sign of a blockage? or should it do that?

that sounds normal, always bleed with the top on, and stop once in a while to refill.

Did you bench bleed the new master before you installed it?

noted, i will bleed with cap on from now on (which means i won't need my oil spill bucket underneath :) )

did i bench bleed it? hmm, i honestly can't remember, i assume i did because i've heard you are supposed to. but i jsut can't remember. i can't believe that i would have put it on and not done that...is this something that i should take my lines off and redo it in place, then put them back on and rebleed entire system?

    thanks for the help everyone.

From what I have been told is you really dont get a full push if you leave the MC in place.

I never did mine and my brakes are always squishy but I can lock up the tire fairly easily so I never really worried about doing it. Plus those things are a PITA to remove by your self. I do, however, have a leaky rear cylinder that will empty my brake system in about a week of non use and about two of normal use, never get any air in the lines though just gotta add some more and pump the pedal a few time and I got brakes back
