This may be a really dumb question, but I'm gonna ask it anyways.

What would be the disadvantage or problem, replacing an intake manifold on a '74 304 that has EGR with a manifold that isn't set up for it? I'm looking to replace my manifold and carb with an Edelbrock intake that i already have that's non EGR and a four barrel Edelbrock carb. The intake came with the jeep when i bought it a year ago. The guy never got around to finishing his plans.

Why buy a new one? Just plug the EGR

No problem, but you won't be emissions legal. An active EGR allows you to run a more dilute air-fuel charge, and disconnecting the EGR on a stock engine makes the mixture somewhat lean. However, with an aftermarket carb, you're setting the mixture yourself.

On the 360 in my Waggy DD I made a small cover plate with a gasket. Never had any trouble with it , Works fine.
I agree with timger, You should not have any issues with the aftermarket carb,

Thanks guys. I had been doing the research on this before i asked and I couldn't find anything that said it was a bad thing, except the emissions part.

What aftermarket carb do you recommend for the AMC 360? I also have a Edelbrock performer manifold that I got with the jeep.

Go with a 4bbl for sure. Ya'll already know what I'ma say! Q-Jet all the way! Unless you want street performance or w/e then I guess Holley or something.
