Doubled-up rear crossmember?

    I pulled the "butch" rear bumper/tire carrier off SSDutch Friday night, and found that the rear crossmember is doubled-up (one layer of metal inside the other) between the frame rails.

    It looks too good to be a PO mod - all the contours are right and all the original holes line up perfectly. Some rivets that attach the crossmember still remain.

    Has anyone seen this on another Jeep?
