As you know I have been having brake problems, I pulled teh rear hubs off and when I removed the one on the drivers side all teh springs and other hardware just fell out. No problem put it all back together and adjusted it.
On the passanger side the wheel cycliner was leaking heavily and the bleeder valve was broke off.... no problem I will just replace that one. Well now I am on number 6 and NONE of them have matched. I even took teh opld one to 3 different parts stores and they cross refrenced the casting numbers and guess what... they still don't match.
I have another one coming in today and I sure hope it works.. they matched it up looking at pictures of cylinders with a 1 inch bore. I am pulling my hair out over this.
Does anybody have any suuggestions as to how i can get the correct part?

Did you Try NAPA? They should of had a paper catalog of the older years. The Computer will only go back as far as 74. Were the brakes upgraded?

NAPA is who I have been dealing with. The book list 8 different ones for that wheel but only a couple with a 1 inch bore but neither of those matched up.
Upgrades on the brakes I don't THINK has happened other than the master cylinder everything else according to the service manual looks original but who knows.
I have my fingers crossed on teh one coming in today... it is only 25.00 and the last one they got me was 69.00 geeeez 69.00 for a 14.00 part ;<(

Sounds strange. I don't think we have ever had that many problems matching one up. I know what you mean It's hard to tell people sometimes how much the parts are going to be. But it's not just us at NAPA it's all of the FLAPS.

I understand about the parts prices but geez why do I always get stuck with the higher dollar stuff? lol
The one I got yesterday was just a little bit bigger so I decided to try it... well I had already tried everything else so I really had no choice. I bolted it on and the shoes wouldnt close up enough to get the drum back on ... I cussed, drank a beer or 6 and cussed some more and then pulled the plungers out and took a 1/4 inch off each one with the grinder and then polished em up nice and smooth and now the back is back together. Gotta tackle the front this evening .... at least I have pedal now but not until it dang near hits the floor.
How do you test a mc? Mine seems top be pushing a lot of fluid but is there some kind of pressure test you can do on one?

Since napa couldnt match the part # my guess is that the wheel cylinder was off an M38a1 or some such. Kinda late now, but if you guys ever need military jeep parts call Brent at:

    He has everything.
