underdash radio location hit struck by passenger seat? speaker locations?

just barely visible here is a plastic fascia and holder for a non Jeep shaft radio, perhaps the one knob simply protrudes too much but it hangs up the passenger seat fold routine.

is the dash center underdash the usual dealer install location?

The radio stinks and so do the speakers, located in little boxes in the rear seat foot well (more tiny holes to fill!).

Where did they usually put the speaker(s)?

I may just remove the entire setup, but I'd like some marginal to decent tunes and a clean look without dash cutting.

Not stock, but check out BKD's Kahuna build for a good setup.

the 74 version mounted both thru the dash
the AM radio body was very short and the dial shafts were very short as well.
not a lot of room...the speaker was mounted in the dash, somewhere between the speedo and glove box I presume.
the above only applies if factory installed or dealer installed factory radio.
for 1975, mid year, the factory mounted the radio and speaker under the dash.
    see pics below.
what year is your Jeep ? don't see it listed in your profile ?

maybe the speaker grille opening didn't come along till 1976, I don't recall

I have a late production 1974, must be close to the summer switch, the engine is June 24th, 1974, I don't know how to decipher build day from VIN, but I assume it didnt wait long for an engine, and the engine didn't wait long for it.

No speaker grille on my 75 dash. No radio, though. I have enough to listen to with just the expensive noises the jeep makes...
