im getting ready to pull my auto tranny in my 85 cj I believe I have the tf-999 in it, and was wondering if anybody knew how much the unit weighs. I like to have a heads-up on these things nowadays, since the last time I attempted a tranny removal in my old scout it turned on me and I took a bath in Dexron fluid. I didnt get hurt and didnt mind having to shower with ajax cleanser but when the wife wouldnt touch me for 3 weeks THAT HURT, anyway that was 20 years ago when I did things without inquiring. THANX cw

Heavy enough that you should strap it to the tranny jack when you pull it out, especially with the transfer case hanging off the side.

This HF trans jack is well regarded for the price: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=39178

They also sell an adapter for a floor jack. You can make an adapter for your floor jack from a thick piece of plywood, blocking, and chains or straps. Pay attention to the balance and watch out for tip-over, esp. if the TC is attached. I've muscled out the Dana 20 and 3-speeds without a jack, but I did them one at a time. An automatic will be heavier, I'd guess around 120-150 lbs. Just a WAG though.

To pull the tranny out of mine I pulled the floor plate off and used a hoist to raise and lower it. Made it easy and I could drop it down onto a cargo dolly to roll it out from under the jeep.

When I had to put a new clutch in my '77 cj-5 I put several straps on it and lowered it from above with my engine hoist through the floor opening,, should work well with an auto trans as well.
