It's interesting that Advanced adaptors claims that a Dana 18 will stand up to V8 power. I've snapped both output shafts with a 231 and now Tuesday I ripped the teeth off a gear with a 225. I think it may be time to find something beefier.

You're doing something wrong. That D18 is damn strong.

It was new when the case was assembled in 1946 ;) When it broke I had all 4 tires wedged in the rocks and was bumping it forward and back. The rest of the drivetrain is pretty beefy 225, TH400, Spooled Dana 60 rear and a D44 front with an easy locker pushing 35 inch tires

I've got a D20 that's about thirty years younger, but I don't think it's much stronger, just wire different as I recall.

    Less pedal mebbe?

Shock-loading any xfercase back and forth like that is going to make it fail eventually.... I've broken freakin' ROCKWELL axles when they were wedged into rock formations and I was trying to pull a 5000# howitzer into position with a deuce-and-a-half on rocky soil!

Honestly Chuck, a lot of folks are able to make the T -90/D18 setup live behind the likes of a hot small-block Chebby. I'm with McRuff here , sorry Bud.

Had it out again today, managed to snap a locking hub or the splined end off the D44 stub shaft. Too much hopping trying to climb a slippery rock ravine.

Edit: Just pulled the hub pieces off and it was a split locking hub. POS Cutlass that I was using as a spare, the inner splined part broke into 5 pieces. Luckily I found some better spares last week, so I can go back to the Warn Premiums

Something to remember!! " When you start to hop- something gonna pop!! I too have learned the hard way. Although it is fun to break parts, it's just not fun fixin' 'em.

under those conditions, even 10 ton truck running gear'll break.

I thought you were running a clocked D300 now Chuck. What happened to that project?
