I just recieved my front and rear bumpers from LoD offroad and was excited b/c they look great. Found that the front hole don't line upa and the rear is way off. Has anyone ever used or modified these bumpers for use on an older CJ5? What is the cutoff year for the frame being different dimensionally on the CJ5s? Any other suggestions on bumpers with clevis mounts that are made rugged like LoD?

Modified my rear bumper to fit mine. It was off a Wrangler. Welded new mounting brackets.

Yours was an LoD bumper though? I have decided to just make my own. I started designing them in CAD this morning. I will post pics and dimensional info when I am done in case anyone else is interested.

    Thanks again for everyone's response.

No it wasn't. But it wasn't hard to modify it.

Before you do anything else, need to go to www.jeepforum.com and PM username BESRK. He's a retired Army guy that opened up his own fab shop. Does really good work, just tell him your dimensions and what you want. I highly recommend his work:

I have the design for both bumpers on paper and now need to finish building in CAD. I will post pdf pics of bumpers when I am done. One thing I am a little puzzled by is the rear cross member. My drivers side is a couple inches longer than the passenger side but it measures 54" in length. Is the offset meant to accomodate the license plate? I am thinking of just trimming up the drivers side to match the passenger side. Any ideas?

Note to Self: Try search for "crossmember" next time. I guess I found my answer. Now to decide whether to trim off the drivers side to make is symmetrical or make the new bumper longer. This Jeep is starting to give me grey hair.

Yeah, its uneven but the holes in it are the same on both sides. You can even it up if you want to but its really unecessary. Once you put the new bumper on it won't be noticed. Here's some pics of mine, might give you some ideas. Its tied into the frame with 3/8" plate and uses existing holes for mounting.:v6:

Looks great. I am assuming your rear bumper is longer than 54" then to cover the long side of the xmember? What guage of tubing did you use and are the plate on the bumper tapped? If not how is the bumper secured?
    Thanks,
    :v6:

Here is a bumper I drew up a while back. It's based on the rear cross member cut flush w/
the outside of the frame rails. The steel angles actually rested on the frame rails. I used this
idea on the bumper I bought. I was going to drill the holes in angles to match the mounting
    holes on the frame.

Note: the right side steel angle had to have the top leg cut off part way to
allow the filler tube on the relocated fuel tank to pass between the frame
    and body.

I can get pics of how the new set went on if your interested.

Yes, I believe its 57", anyway it was cut to the width of the body (tub). The tube is 2x4x.188. Put a spare carrier much like Panzer's on mine as well. I put mine on the face of the bumper instead. You can see the hinge bracket and catch on the bumper. Being a cheapskate I went w/ a gate hinge rather than the spindle type in Panzer's drawing. The mounting plates were drilled and tapped to match existing holes on the xmember (1/2" plate steel).:v6:
