I am planning on doing a power steering install in my '80 CJ-5 over my Christmas Vacation. (1 of 3 projects for these 12 days I am off, the other two are a roll cage and mounting a new winch)
I already have the parts needed, an AGR Superbox2 with dropped pitman arm, Flaming River Steering Shaft, a Heavy Duty steering box mount from MORE and a tie-rod flip kit with HD ball-joints and 1" diameter thick wall tie rod and drag link.

The only thing I am missing are the hoses. If I have to I will get them custom made, but I am thinking there must be somthing out there that will fit without major effort or mods.

The steering box fittings are standard Saginaw, 18mm inlet and 16mm return. BUT,,, what I need are hoses (or at least the high pressure supply hose) that will also mate up to the FORD pump on my 5.0EFI (from an '86 Crown Vic if thats a help) to make it all work. I figure a standard Chevy/GMC return line will work, as the return on the Ford pump is simply a nipple that the hose attaches to directly and is secured with a hose clamp. Im sorry I do not know what the fitting size is for the Ford pump outlet. I am also thinking there might be a fitting adaptor I may be able to use.

    Thanks in advance,,,

If there is any agriculture nearby, I would check at a tractor dealer or check the yellow pages for a small ag parts house. These guys make custom hoses and fittings all day long, and at least around here, they do it for cheap, and know their stuff.

In fact, in any rural area, this is how you tell the good parts houses, they have the ability to do stuff like this. Not gonna happen at autozone, at least around here. And they do it cheap, because farmers don't put up with high dollar solutions to their everyday problems.

Take it to the pro, he will do it right the first time, beats having a hose clamp let go at a critical moment, IMO...

think farfle has the right direction for you, it's how I did mine....cost $20 something for both hoses, and no worry about whether its the correct fittings

ok, I'll get the box, etc installed so I can accurately measure for overall length, cap the ports on the box ( I have already used one of the factory ford hoses to run from output to input on the box, as I needed to keep it filled & lubed) and get the hoses made locally. I do know of one local shop that makes custom hoses,,I was looking for a more budget friendly option.
I did a quich check on Summit Racing,, they had a braided stainless "Power Steering Hose KIT" for 110&,,, DEFINATELY NOT HAPPENING.

You Need to know that the JCI fitting used for high pressure cost about $20 to $25 each on my install the hoses cost about $110 and the guy that runs the local parts small parts house is a close friend so I get most things at cost. my 2 cents.

Sounds like it might be cheaper to fit a Saginaw pump to your 302 - but maybe not so straightforward. I know the saginaw pumps will work with either the o-ring or flare fittings; the adapter to the later o-ring style screws in to the flare fitting.

Grouper, thanks for the part #. One option I am looking at is getting the hoses either new or used for the CJ, and just having the pump end fittings swapped over. The return line is simpler due to the fact it just attaches to the pump with a hose clamp. Maybe I can find a donor fitting (16mm) for the return line (box end) in the junk-yard
I'm still trying to find the measurements/size of the pump fitting for the ford pump.

Tim, AGR makes a high output Ford pump that is a direct bolt in for the bracketry I have now, I plan on upgrading to that in the future, next winter maybe, so I dont really want to go swapping/fabricating bracketry to fit a saginaw pump.

EDIT: OK, I just went out and went through the "I might need this part later" box from the donor car and luckily the P/S pressure hose was in it, so looks like I can get the jeep replacement hose Grouper found and have the ford pump end fitting installed on it, and then get a return line w/box end fitting from a salvage yard. Will let ya know how it turns out, still waiting for the pitman arm before I get the project going.
