Bendix Clunk!

    I'm currently helping a relative restore an 1953 M38A1. The bendix joint in the front axleshaft (driver side) broke. We replaced it with a NOS axleshaft. Lowered the jeep, backed it out and CLUNK! Haven't torn down to inspect yet, but we assume it broke again. Now wheel turns 1/2 turn in both directions and binds. We also assume that it was reassembled correctly, but it was in pieces when it was taken apart. Any ideas on the cause?

    replace it with another bendix style axle? ball may have came out
