Okay, I just read an article about military Jeeps in JP magazine. It mentioned one of the best ways to tell the difference between a MB and a GPW was the design of the wheel well tool box lids. I had never heard this and since I still don't know for sure if my MB is really an MB I need some pics. If anyone has good pictures of tool box lids on a known MB or GPW please post them. That may be about the only original piece left on mine so I think I can count on that to identify it. Thanks!

Sure, AFAIK IIRC the GPW had none, but I may be wrong?

The article says "key features that set the Willys MB apart from its GPW cousin are a tubular front crossmember and flat tool box lids. The GPW had a C-channel front crossmember and ridges on the tool box cover." I'm trying to decide if the covers on mine have "ridges". They have a stamped ring around the outer edge and a circle stamped in the middle. They match the GPW lids for sale on ebay right now. I would like to see some known MB lids so I know for sure.

I know Dad's GPW had "ridges", can't think of the proper term right now. They were straight "dents" put in to add strength, very similar to the rear floor pan. His was stock except for paint before we swapped motor, trans, etc. I do remember for sure they were straight, not circular or weird patterns.

Those are GPW lids. The MB lids are perfectly flat.

Cool, thanks for the input. I guess I have a GPW.
