Now that I am back from Iraq I am actively looking for a CJ6. However, I am about to poke my eyes out looking for some basic info. What year did the CJ5/CJ6 upgrade to 11 inch brakes and dual master cylinder. I am thinking 1971.

Also, I am not familiar with the 70 era JEPS as well. What would be some of the better stock drivetrain combos, axles, etc.

Basically I am trying to figure out what the major differences are between 1969 to 1975 and what the major changes and options were, as well as what ould be more desireable (And what to stay away from).

    Thanks

Ok think I found it. Looks like the T-15 is behind the 304. Dana 18 up to 1971 and then Dana 20 in 1972. Then roughly in 1971 they also switched to center diff cases. This sound correct?

So, should there be something specific I should focus on like if I am looking at a 1974 CJ6 with a 304.

x2 on the build it. Course if you can get a stock 6 in good shape, keep it stock. Personally I think the cj6's are way cool and you need one.

'72 switched to the D20 (centered output).

'72 is the beginning of the longer wheelbase too. 104" vs. 101"

Thanks y'all. As far as building one, I would prefer to find one fairly stock and not too far gone. I am not a hardcore mudder or rock climber. Just light wheeling (for the fishing, hunting, and family use) and recreational use. So, a stock post '70 would work or an older with the usual upgrades completed already. I am not ready at this point for a complete frame-off again.

sounds like a '72 and up will work good for me. Now just have to keep searching.
