Hi everyone, My windshield wipers have recently started acting up. When I turn them on the go as far as normally do to the drivers side of the car, and then get stuck. You have to push the wiper back towards the passenger side of the car, and then the cycle starts again. Has anyone else had this kind of problem. Anything in particular that I should check before I spend $$$ for a "professional" to fix them?

can you remove the big plastic plugs in the windshield frame and watch to see what's happening ?
I don't recall, but I believe the motor makes full revoloutions, not just sweeping back and forth.
There are some bronze bushings in the short arm that could wear out I suppose.
this should be the same as yours; don't let the years bother you.

Yeah, actually I've pulled all of those plugs out and tried to figure out what was going wrong. It seemed like the linkage for the passenger side wiper was going to far in one direction and getting hung up. It's almost like it needs a stop or something to keep it from going around that far and getting stuck.

the stop could be broken and it's going past center.
you could remove the clip and disconnect the pass side and then try it to eliminate it as the problem.
be careful, those little clips can go places you never thought of...

Good idea, thank you. What number is the stop on the diagram you attached?

My 72 did the same thing several years ago because one of the gaskets that go between the wiper transmission and the windshield frame had deteriorated and was allowing the transmission to rock back and forth which caused the linkage to get bent. I replaced the gaskets on both wiper transmissions and straightened the wiper linkage and I havn't had the problem any more. Also check to see if the linkage bushings and wiper transmissions are worn out.

Had a similar prob,,, the motor was not mounted tightly and the play allowed the linkage to do weird things. Put in a new gasket/spacer and tightened the bolts up with a drop of lock-tite to keep them that way,,, no more problems.
