Old 3 finger clutch setup is 1/2" taller than the diaphram set up. Is this a problem? Bearing for diaphram clutch is the correct Napa part # for use when using the diaphram clutch. Just want to know for sure before I bolt all this togeather. Oh it's bolting up to a 225 v6 with a t14a trans on a '71 cj5. Thanks in advance for the help...

OK, Just did a quck search & I learned that the throw out bearing for a diaphram clutch should be shorter than the one on a 3 finger clutch. So I guess that would account for the 1/2" difference. Would still like to know for sure though if some one knows for sure please let me know, thanks again

seems to me that when you put the disc behind the press plate, and bolt everything down, the fingers would drop anyway as you tighten the bolts.

Cool, thanks. I also checked the factory service manual. Says that starting in '71 they went to a diaphram clutch. My '71 had the 3 finger unit but I could tell from the bolts that holds the clutch to the flywheel this is not it's first new clutch. I guess for some unknown reason they used the 3 finger instead of the diaphram unit.

It's not uncommon to have a different throwout bearing for an Auburn 3 finger, Borg and Beck, and diaphram style clutch. The important thing is to match the throwout bearing to the style of pressure plate assembly used in the kit. GM used 3 different possible height throwout bearings because of this. I know this is a Jeep but you are talking about a GM designed engine and clutch assembly.
