Anything can be swapped with enough time and money. Should you swap? In short - no.

Both are synchronized 3spds, but from dissimilar eras. Input shaft, pilot bushing, bell pattern and transfer case output are the things that immediately come to mind. I'm sure there are more.

    What's wrong with your T-14?

I am rebuilding this 1970 cj5 from the ground up. since I had it apart, I thought I might up grade. I have heard the t14 is a weak tranny.

The t15 is stronger than the t150 but still not an easy swap, The dana 18 is capable of handling big power and is not really an upgrade when compared to the dana 20. The dana 20 is a centered drive which would cause you to swap rear axles to a centered diff, the dana 20 has crappier gear ratios than the dana 18. The dana 18 is prone to a little more wear than the dana 20 but personally I would keep the dana 18. If you want a stronger transmission swap to a truck 4 speed. As far as the t14 being weak, well that has alot to do with how you use it. Mine has seen 175k miles and after being rebuilt seems to work just fine. Stay off the skinny pedal and you should be just fine. If your listening to the young rock crawler crowd, quit, before you spend tons of money upgrading everything on your jeep that is supposedly crap. My jeep wheels just fine with a t14, when I do swap it will be for a granny geared truck 4 speed not another 3 speed.

I'm not a big fan of the T-14, but for this application it will be ok. There's no good reason to do this swap. The T-150 is stronger than the T-14, but the ratios of the D18 are better than the D20. The T-150 can only be used with the Dana 20.

As Mike points out, the main problem with the Dana 20 is you'll need to change the rear axle.

Waste of time and money. Put it together and wheel it.
