I bough a 74 CJ5 a month or 2 back. I am in the process of fixing the body. Now that I have had it for a while there are some things I am noticing.

Speedometer: I drove the jeep about an hour home. The first while the speedometer seemed to work fine then started to bounce all around or hold at 20mph when I was going much faster. How can I fix this..what will make it work correctly.

How is the windshield properly attached. When I bought it there were only three bolts on both sides going from the tub to the windshield and no hinges on the outside where they are traditionally. Do I just need the hinges on the outside or do I need the hinges plus the bolts from tub to bottom of winshield frame

This jeep has a V8. I have always had 258's. I am assuming this is a 304 but what can I look for to know for sure?

What tranny, t-case, and axles came stock on this model. I have a 3spd, Dana 20t-case. I am not sure on the axles though. The rear lokks to be a dana44.

Has anone converted the stearing and brake system to a power stearing and brake system. Is it costly or easy to do?

Can someone post a pick of how the clutch rod is suppose to be hooked up inside the jeep and on the firewall. Mine is half-busted and moves around...especially when turning or hitting bumps.

    Thanks aallison.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion for my tub.

I think the tub I have is very low quality fiberglass. The sides cracked just below the dash on both sides. The whole upper section on the front of the tub(basically from door opening to where the windshield attaches) is very week. It flexes a lot and that is why I think it craked in the first place...because the body couldn't handle the weight of the windshield frame. Also the firewall is very flexible also...with the battery mounted to it I feel it is going to break away if I went off roading.

Is there a way I can reinforce this section of the tub. After I refiberglass the craked sections I think they will just crack again. It seems very weak. I would probably be better off getting another tub?

Can you post picts of the tub? I've got a glass 6 tub and it's fairly solid. It's older and I bought it used and it needs repair but it's solid. The orgional pre 76 tub I have is broken in half at the front of the door openings.

Stick a magnet on it. Do it a few places to avoid bondo. But the actual walls of my glass tub are much thicker than the metal of the orgionals.

    Picts would be good.
