I searched a little bit but was wondering if anybody had better luck with one brand or another of replacement 76+ steel windshield frames?

I'd go OEM. Look around for a good factory replacement.

Tim i can appreciate the OEM fit but I have been having trouble finding one that is in "good" shape that isnt already on sombodys "driving" jeep.

Tell me why you think the OEM is so much better, maybe I will look a while longer though.

In general, OEM parts seem to be of better quality than the new replacement parts available today. I have seen reports of low quality (ie poor fit, sloppy assembly) for the earlier model new windshield frames. There were plenty of '76-on Jeeps built, and running Jeeps from that era are still being parted out today. I recall in an old message that some or all Wrangler frames are the same as the late CJ frames - not sure about this, so check it out before you buy one.

Plus I'm skeptical that you couldn't find one if you made a stronger effort. Most people don't understand how to be resourceful re something like this - I'm sure that if you call, for example, J&W or Scottys in CA they would have a complete windshield for you. You may not like the price/shipping, but that's an almost guaranteed source. There are also yards in CO and TX that have a lot of stuff, and at least one in GA as I recall. You can place WTB ads on all the Jeep-related message boards. There must be Jeep/4x4 club forums in AL that you can advertise on. These may not lead you directly to the part, but instead give you leads to where you can find the part.

    hth!
