Pink Jeep History

I am seeking information on a Jeep that has been in my family since it was new. According to the serial number, it is a 1960 CJ-5. The body is pink. The steel cab is gray, with a white fiberglass cap. The pink and gray colors are original from the factory. The engine is an "F" head. The Jeep has 22,000 miles on it.

Does anybody have an idea of where I could learn more about this seemingly unique Jeep? I would like to know how many were made.

    Thanks.

    Steve

    Pink or Indian Ceramic? http://earlycj5.com/featured/Tux%20Park%20Mark%20III/index.php

Tops were an option that were ordinarily dealership installed.

Does it happen to have a white grille?

I'm guessing you can give us more history since it was in your family since new than we can give you. ;)

Oh, two more things. Pictures are immensely useful to us and Welcome from Kansas! Whereabouts do you hale from?

    Thanks Adam.

I tried uploading a photo of the Jeep, which may help provide additional information.

My grandfather purchased it new, and left it to me upon his death. I've had the Jeep ever since, but I never had any history on it from grandpa.

    I'm from Fargo, North Dakota.

I tried to attach it to my reply to you. Doesn't appear it went through. Do you have an email address? I'll send it via jpeg.

This may be the jeep I've heard nothing but whispered rumors of over the years. This is more than likely a first internal concept demonstration for a famous jeep that did not arrive until the advent of the YJ.

I must say I have enjoyed the perspectives and comments offered! Yes, I have been asked why I want to be seen driving the "Barbie Jeep". (The Barbie reply was a gimme, hey I would have taken it too!).

I have a few additional pictures which I'll attach this evening or tomorrow sometime. But yes, the color is original.

I have no owners manual or other documentation on it.

doesn't the battery box cover on the cowl indicate it was military at one time?

No, just means it's a pre-1964 Jeep CJ-5 or CJ-6 if that's all you're looking at. They were fixed, didn't open.

I can't think of any significant reason other than a special order for the Jeep to be painted pink.
No special packages or fleets or special events for that to be painted that way.
I can only surmise he liked the color combo.
without any paperwork or other documents to support the Jeep, we may never know the reasoning.
No trim tag for that year, would that statement be correct ?

I'm not immediately aware of a trim tag.

The old "check under the dash in the cowl" routine comes to mind to be absolutely sure the color is original though. :)

Sorry everybody. I'm having computer problems and for some reason my pictures of my pink CJ-5 are not posting. I'll keep working on it. Been traveling a lot and haven't had much time behind the computer. Thanks to everyone who has posted a comment, it has all been helpful.
