Modify later fenders to fit early CJ5???

Hi All,
I need a set of fenders for my 65 and looking around it is damn near impossible to find them for a decent price. No problem finding lots of good used later fenders. I was wondering if it feasible to cut the later fenders down to size? Is the only difference the length between the opening and then tub? I have no problem with cutting off the mounting flange and welding it back together but was just wondering if their is any reason this wouldn't work? I would also fill the area on later fenders where the turn signal light goes.

Should work. AFAIK the extra length is all in the rearmost portion of the fender. Careful measurements and skill should be all that's required.

 

There is an ad from Sept. on the Willys Tech board for a fender.
