Aloha, I just picked up a NT D30 disc braked axle minus the calipers and brackets with 7/8" rotors for my 73 CJ6. Does anybody have a picture of the stock 2 bolt caliper brackets? Is there a source where I can buy them from?

Would it be easier to just do the chevy disc brake swap? I would prefer to keep it all jeep if the parts are available but at this point I want to get my jeep running again so whatever works.

I do have a pair of the HD chevy caliper brackets(the full round steel ones) and calipers. Would I just need the thicker jeep/scout rotor to complete the swap?
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thanks!

I've done both. It's six of one, half dozen of the other. With the 2 bolt conversion, you have to pull everything off from the ball joints out. With the Chevy conversion, you just go down to the caliper bracket, but often times you need a new thicker inner bearing race and there's some typical hassle with the mixing/matching of parts and model years. With the Chevy conversion, you use the '77-'78 Jeep rotor as outlined here: http://www.earlycj5.com/tech/brakes/diskSwap/disc_conversion.php

Thanks for the info. I guess its preference and money that'll decide it for me. If I can source the jeep brackets thats what I'll go with. If not(and it seems these 2 bolt brackets are hard to get) I'll do the swap.

Does anybody have a pn# on the larger inner race?

I don't have the whole part # but it's the same # except the last digit. Your race should have a 0 as the last digit and the one you need has a 1 as the last digit. Other than that the same #. I don't know what shipping to Hawaii would be or if they will separate the brackets but R&P may have some. Call them at 503-557-8911. Paul and Richard are hunting until Thursday so I'd call after that.

Why not just convert the D30 you already have? I have a '73 D30 that I did the GM conversion on. Wasn't any big deal. Just a lot of grinding. Also, the brackets need to be re-drilled for the GM conversion to allow for full steering.

The new holes are drilled exactly between the existing holes. I used a spindle as a guide. Drill one hole then bolt the spindle to the bracket using that hole and you then have the location for the rest. 2 bolt caliper sets are getting hard to buy parts for while the GM stuff is plentiful.

Worse case I may convert it but a fellow jeeper may have the parts so I'll wait on word from him before I do any converting.

Why did you have to redrill the caliper bracket? Was there interference with the brakes and steering linkage? Got a shot of your front brake set up?

    Thanks for the help!

Using the stock holes in the bracket, the caliper hit the knuckle on full turn and robbed me of the tight turning I expected from the D30. Nickmil actually told me about re-drilling the brackets. I did and voila! everything works fine. The GM knuckles have the spindle bolts clocked differently than the Jeep spindles, that 's why you need to re-drill them. In the pic you can see that the caliper is clocked at about 9 oclock. After they are drilled that will clock closer to 11 oclock. This gets them out of the way of the knuckle when you turn all the way. If you do the GM conversion the proper inner bearing race is LM501311. If you bearing cones are in good shape this race will work with them as it's still in the A35 bearing group.

Awesome info, thank you! Coby61 is trying to hook me up with the stock brackets so I'm going to see how that works first.
If not I'll pick up the races and get cracking. I'm hoping to take the 6 out before the end of bird season.
