Decided to go with either a Black Diamond 3" lift or BDS 2.5" lift and forego the Holbrook kit because of cost. Looking at these kits they don't include the shackles/hanging hardware. I assume the original did not use shackles but some sort of C shaped bolt. If I buy a kit what other parts will be needed to complete the installation? I will be starting from scratch as my original suspension components are gone (broken or rusted beyond use). I think I will need shackles and bushings. ANything else? I also read in previous forums that there was a problem with the U bolts not being the right ones. Still a problem? I have a 57 CJ5 with a 283 engine, Thanks, Paul

The original Jeep did use shackles. They're called silent block shackles.

Axle U-bolts may or may not be the correct size. If not they're available from the parts store.

The lift kit should come with new bushings, be sure you know what it comes with. There's plenty of information in the forum here about replacing them as well.

You could just reuse your old shackles or buy new direct replacements or retrofit H-type shackles.
