Here's a geeky one for the true Jeep pros. Anyone know the kingpin inclination angle on a D30? It's been tough to search for this one.

Kingpin? I don't know that it's the right term for an axle with ball joints.

There's a caster and a camber angle. That should uniquely determine the axis through the ball joints. I don't know those numbers off the top of my head, but I thought the '72 caster was something like 1 or 2 degrees, then it increased by a degree or two at some point. I'd have to look up the camber.

Unfortunately, caster and camber ride on the kingpin inclination, but they are not directly dependent on it, so you really can't use either to back calculate the inclination angle. Kingpin inclination is the correct term, but you are correct, it is the angle from vertical of the line through the centers of the balljoints (kingpins in older cars and trucks) when viewed from in front of the vehicle (similar to camber).

The reason I ask is curiosity about scrub radius with larger tires. If you have tires and wheels that give a 0 scrub radius, larger tires on the same wheels should give a smaller (negative I think) scrub radius. Wheel spacers may return the scrub radius to ideal again. It's all about potentially making steering easier with larger tires, not that it's been any problem.

    Just random thoughts and ramblings...

Pardon my ignorance, but ... nonsense! If you incline the 'kingpin', you change the caster - the whole point of caster shims is to change the inclination of the kingpin.
