Grinding shifting into 2nd

    My t-14 has started Grinding shifting into 2nd. No other systems. What to check? I checked my fluid yesterday. It was alittle low so I topped it off. 1975 CJ5 3sp, 258

    If you shift more slowly does it not grind? I'd guess the blocking rings are worn out. 2nd is the first to go typically.

    Shift slow with low rpm's it doesn't get The harder you push it the more it grinds. It just started doin it this week.

    Well, it has to start sometime.

    You could try adjusting the clutch. Not likely that's the problem, since it doesn't grind going into 1st when stopped. Easy to do though, and a worthwhile maintenance job.

    The Borg-Warner 3-speeds are not fast shifting transmissions. You can learn to shift it so that it doesn't clash, if the blocking rings (synchro rings) are worn. My pickup clashes if you push it, but that doesn't stop me from driving it. Upshifting is easy if you learn to match the engine speed to the gear speeds. I expect 2nd wears out fastest because of the 2nd-3rd downshift. Avoid downshifting into 2nd until you are almost stopped, and/or learn to double clutch. Drivers did without synchromesh for nearly 50 years, and it didn't stop them from driving...
