I have the throttle linkage off a 1969 CJ that went to the V6. I swapped the stock cast iron manifold and 2bbl holley to an edelbrock intake and a 390 4bbl carb. The 390 is off an older Americain motors small V8. My issue is the link threaded to the rod (1/4-28 threads) is missing the clip that secures it to the ball end on the carb. I have researched and have not found the same type I have. So I thought I would just up date the ball end and get a new link. Well what I am running into is the plate on the 390 carb I have is drilled at 3/16" and most of the ball ends are #10 or 1/4". The reason I just can't drill t out to #10 is the hole in the plate is very close to the edge and making it wider would weaken the anchor point. I also thought I could just replace the plate attached to the throttle shaft, but it is riveted to it. Newer 390's will accept the 1/4" ball end. Doe's any one know of a source of supply for the old link used in early V6 carb applications? It's funny when your building something it's the little details that trip you up;).

You could cut a tiny piece of thin-walled aluminum tubing to make a sleeve for a 3/16" machine screw to fit in the larger bore. If you slit it along its length after cutting you can expand it slightly to make a good fit.

Is there no other suitable hole in the carb that you could use? The 390s I've seen were all of the "universal" type and designed to fit multiple applications. They all had a nice, big hole at the far end so that you could use a bushing to adapt just about any linkage/cable setup.

Actually the hole is 3/16", I need to increase the hole size to upgrade to a newer ball stud. Here's some pictures of the plate, and yea other than my 390 they all seem to be universal.

    Gotcha.

Is there enough metal on the ball stud to cut the threaded part off and then drill/tap the backside for a smaller screw?

Good idea, I ordered a selection of ball ends from Jegs, http://www.jegs.com/p/Holley/743671/10002/-1
I might try your idea. Wish I had a small lathe I could make something to work!
