    Need a little help.

I have never had a jeep gas tank out before so I am not positive about this.

I plumbed all new lines gas and vent complete.
Smallest amount of rubber at the ends.

With all old rigs I buy I install a glass filter right away to see if the fuel is full of crud.
    This Jeepster was clean.
Sooo.. I didnt pull the tank but left it almost empty over the winter.

Now I am going through the pains of starting it and finding small new problems with all the mods I have made.

When tuning it over it wouldnt prime the pump.
    no biggie not to suprised.
I added a little air pressure to the tank.
    No workie.

    Had poured in some gas.

So I put in about 5 gals to help...
Nothing .....oh wait, yep dead battery.

I was suggested maybe I had the lines swapped.
Easy to try just switched them and presto gas in the filter and sort of starts.

Next day get under jeepster and double check lines... no, there right.
And the glass filter wont fill up just some fuel.

Gas is coming from the vent I think this would be the attachment away from the sender area right???

The attachment in the sender should be the gas line right???

    No gas from it.

So.. I sent air in the vent line by the pump back to tank to see if the gas.. line would prime .

I get air and some gas mist but no gas....out the gas line at the pump.

OK heres what i dont want to know..
Based on my thinking of the line in the sender being the gas line.
Can the pick up fall off in the tank??
And am I just sending gas up the vent tube??

I know I made a rookie mistake because I filled the tank.
And now might have to pull it.
It ran fine before I took it all apart so seems wierd the pickup might have fallen off.
the ones I have had out, the pickup was one piece, and couldnt just fall in the tank ,so I dont know what to think..

try putting a fuel line from gas can to intake side of pump. make sure your problem isn't there before you drop the tank.

Just checked my Hurst and my 70, the fitting on the sending unit is the return line on both. Pickup tube is on the right side of the tank. The tank on my 70 came out of either a 68 or a 69 I parted out.
Almost forgot, as I mentioned in my post over at the JCCA for those who don't go there, the filter can fall off the pickup tube but more likely it would gum up or disintegrate before it would fall off.

When I went to go look at my 73 the PO tried to start it and nothing, no gas in the filter, we cranked until the batt died.

added some gas to the carb and cranked, started right up and ran 'til gas burned off.

did it a few more times and finally the filter filled up.

issue was water in the gas and a dry blow

Got the lines right thanks for the help.

    Just FYI.
I kept flooding the carb after that.
thougth it was junk in the new lines .
took the top off the carb. cleaned it out .
    Checked float leval.
    Nothing wrong.
Little filter at inlet still looked perfect.
had rebuilt this over the winter.
Put it back on and it did it again after a few minutes.

    Took it apart again...

Finaly noticed that the gasket between the hinge of the float,
and the float had an extra amount of material.
I think it's ment for many different carbs.

Any way the flaot was catching on the extra gasket right there .
Cut out the extra with a exacto knife.
    End of problem.

    FWIW.
