My new (to me) transmission

    I picked up a T176 four speed yesterday. I pulled the top cover to check it out. I don't know much about transmissions, but I didn't see anything that looked excessively worn. Should the input shaft have a noticeable amount of side to side (or up and down) play? Here are a couple of shots.

    Yes the input shaft will have quite a bit of free play, that is generally normal.
