I bought a 88 Cherokee for 300 that runs good but won't pass smog from a neighbor who is moving. I'm wondering what partscan I use off it besides the engine, on my 75 cj5?

Even the engine isn't that desirable - it's the earlier low-output version. The Renix fuel injection is also not very desirable. If you want a 4.0L, you want the '91-on later "HO" version with Mopar multiport fuel injection.

My buddy's '88 Cherokee spends almost as much time being fixed as 'wheeled, all due to the crappy fuel injection and a questionable clutch slave cylinder design. They also have the Dana 35 rear axle which isn't terribly good. It shouldn't be a C-clip design which helps, but it doesn't make up for other shortcomings compared to the Dana 44 you have. The front axle is a unit bearing Dana 30 with an axle disconnect system, I'd keep the spindle design you have instead. The transmission is the crappy Peugot 5 speed (if it's a stick.) It's probably the worst transmission ever put in a Jeep. All in all, not much you want off that '88.
