Yes i saw your thread on your door rebuild. Gotta love the metal hardtops Im going to need a strip of weather stripping. Im gonna look at the junk yard first but i was thinking jc whitney or maby even napa . Any ideas? Someplace local would be cool

 

Bought the paint today 80$ for a half gallon and hardner. Acrylic enamel Empire blue. Hopefully itll be enough. Im aiming for color saturday

Is the diamond plate laid over sheet metal or is it a replacement for sheet metal? I couldn't quite tell from the inside the tub pic.

MIG or flux core?

Yea i havnt been working alot the last few weeks except for on the jeep. I cut the sheetmetal back so the diamond plat ovelaps about a half inch and the floor is welded right to the plate also. Its all mig welded with gas. I beleive my welder is a lincoln 100. Small but gets the job done

 

Colorrrrrrr.....! Came out good i only used a quart. Its a bit rough and not real shiny im thinking thats usual and should buff out?

acrylic enamel with the gloss hardener should be very glossy right away. I color sanded mine wth 1500 then 2000 and now its like glass. I used a lot more than a quart.

 

Iv read you cant wet sand single stage metallics. Ill see what i can do in a couple days when its dryer i guess. I think it was the crappy gun i used. Guess i can always spray it again or clear it

 

Very nice work man. In the past when I've shoot single stage paint, I've always layed down 3 wet coats waiting say 15 mins between coats to tack up before the next. The dullish finish looks to me like the paint wasn't applied wet or even maybe no heavy enough!?? Like you said no big thing just time for some clear coat.

 

Yea im going to wet sand it smooth and spray it again nice and wet. I think i just layed it too thin and it couldnt glaze over properly. Gonna get some new reducer too.the stuff i used was probrobly 8 years old. Plus i found some thin spots

Mine was a green metalic in Centauri the color sanding worked great. If you clearcoat it it will make repairs from trail rash and scratches more difficult. I can repair scratches real easy with my airbrush one of the main reasons I went with a single stage.

 

Well iv got to sand it anyway so ill see how it goes. clearcoat is the last resort.
Iv got an unrelated issue with my front axle. The spindle leakes oil at the brake backing plate after i replaces the scruber seals and filled it up. Can i maby stop it from leaking by pumping some greese in there? It seems pretty involved tearing it all apart to seal it up. My only worry is that its leaking because the bolts have loostend up. Im not sure what i want to do with it

 

Did you refill it with just 90w or something similar? If you did, I read somewhere(can't remember if it's this site or jeeps unlimited) but the regular 80-90w is not heavy enough and will leak out. The post said to mix about 50-50 of 90w and chasis grease to meet the correct viscosity of the stuff they used to put in there. There is no equivelant that I know of on the market any more. I was looking for a solution myself as I have two of these things that I have to redo the knuckles on.

Gettin it back together. I gave it another coat of paint and it came out alot better. Its thick enough now that i can sand and buff it to a nice shine. Theres some uneven spots in the mettalic almost made me want to respray it with base clear but im so sick of the paint right now ill live with it. Hell its a jeep not a porsche right. Plus if the paint were any nicer youd see all the imperfections in the body work

 

Thanks! yea the rears are wider. i dont know what their from. The hubs throw off the even look anyway so its ok with me
