Well, I finally got the CJ-5.0 project to the point where I was able to take it out for a test run around the block.
It runs pretty rough, coughing and sputtering as the rpm's come up,and is running extremely rich,it went through 1 quarter tank in about 20 minutes of driving around the neighborhood and idling in the driveway . It's probably going to be rough getting it running right.:(

I pulled it into the gas station to top off the tank and found that in just a couple minuted an oil slick the size of a dinner plate had formed under it, it looked as if it came from the rear of the engine so I put a quart in and got it the 2 blocks back home. I was thinking the worst, such as the rear main seal, as it was coming off the bellhousing. Once I got a closer look at it , the oil was covering the TOP of the bellhousing and rear of the engine so it seems to be coming from the top--rear of the engine, so I'm thinking intake manifold gasket as the valve cover gaskets are fine and no oil is leaking that far up on the rear of the heads. I'm not real familiar with the SB Ford, but I don't think there are any oil gallery plugs on the rear of the block there just below the intake. Am I on the right track?

Looks like I'll be spending the afternoon removing the upper EFI intake to get a better look at the rear of the engine and (hopefully) see exactly where the oil is coming from. I'm hoping I wont have to pull the engine in order to make major repairs.

I don't recall any oil gallery plugs at the rear of the engine that are outside the bell housing. Sounds like a displaced intake gasket. My 5.0 has a real problem with leaky VC gaskets and they don't always make a mess up top :(

when I first put the 6 together I had problems w/ the intake and valve cover leaking (those are an easy fix)....I'm getting ready to drop the pan because the rear main IS leaking, I'm hoping it's a 2 piece so I can do it w/o dropping the trans/TC
Good look on yours guys...Jim S.

Yep,,shot gasket at the rear of the intake manifold,,should have it fixed this evening or tomorrow after work. Im thinking that if they are as much a pain as the end gaskets on SB Chevies I may ditch the end gaskets in favor of a thick bead of silicone,,always worked on my chevies.

Still need to figure out why it's running so damn rich,,,,, Im really starting to hate fuel injection.

Well, got the new manifold gasket in and re-installed the manifold, etc during the week after work. I also turned the fuel pressure down to 20 psi in order to ( hopefully) get it running leaner:stout:
Got of work a but early today so I tried another test run around the block a few times,, it started right up and ran smooth. However,,as the rpm's come up it is still running poorly, and to make matters worse,,,, the warmer the engine gets, the worse it runs,,until it quits all together. I had to let it cool for half an hour to get to start and drive it the couple blocks back home.

I am running out of ideas, the Haynes Fuel Injection book I got is of little help, there are no fault codes being thrown to decipher either, so I dont know where to go from here. I guess I'll have to cough up the bucks ($$$$$$$) to put in a shop that does a lot of FI work and have it finished.:(

Plus the alternator is still not throwing a charge,,there are only minor things to do to get it on the road, such as painting the seat brackets and cleaning up the wiring behind the dash,, little stuff like that, but I can't get it going well enough to get it on the road and trails:mad:

I have NEVER been this frustrated over a vehicle project,,and I have owned a Corvette!!!!!
