I just bought a 46 with no engine trans, or transfer case. I was wondering if my 75 cj5, 258 power train will fit? I know it probably wont bolt right in, but will work with a little fab?

The I6 would take some major hacking to get in there - either an extended grille or a big ole firewall hole. It's a poor choice for a repower IMHO.

Either look for original stuff or go with a Buick or Chevy V6 - they'll fit much more easily.

Mike's right - it'd be a nightmare. Jeep had to stretch the engine compartment to make the 232/258 fit, as well as redesign the grille.

Have you read Novak's site about Jeep engine swaps? http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/engines_general.htm

Buick V6s come from RWD Buicks, typically midsize or compacts (?). Chevy v6s were used in lots of Chevy vehicles - like the Astro van.

The best donor would be a 66-71 CJ-5 with a V6, since that would provide engine, trans and transfer case. Unless you want to change axles, you'll need a Dana 18 transfer case, wwich is properly offset to match your rear axle. Pretty much any of the Jeep Borg-Warner 3-speed transmissions will work with little adapting.
