Where do these seals go?? View attachment 22752 When I got this axle it was in pieces. View attachment 22754 I've gotten it this far but I'm not sure where these seals go. View attachment 22753 Do they need to be pressed into the end of the housing or are the ones inside by the diff. all that is needed. (I'm trying to attach the photos.)

D30 axle seals go inside the diff.
Pull the axles out, pull the case (carrier).

I use a long wooden broom handle to tap out the old ones and tap in the new ones.
Be careful to not cut the rubber when installing the new ones (you'll have to go through one installed new one to install the 2nd one) and when installing the axles (lube the seals and axle splines good before installing).

Last time I did these I cleaned and painted the axle shafts and the inside of the tubes before installing the new shafts to prevent getting any crud/rust flakes on the new seals.

OK. So these seals go toward tie inner side of the housing. Are there supposed to be any seals at the ends of the housing? I'm thinking not.

I've been looking at "exploded views" of the front Dana 30 but I cant find one that makes it easy to see the seals. If anyone has photos of a tear down that would help me out. Thanks.

There are no seals at the outer end of the axle.

Those seals are a real bear to install. I always use a socket that just fits inside the seal to drive it square and prevent bending it. If you bend it at all, pull it out and buy a new one. If it has any distortion, it'll leak. Make sure it's installed square in the end of the tube (there is a ridge that it seats against.) Again, if it's not square, it'll leak. Install it with the tapered side inside the tube, it helps guide the axle into the seal.

Thanks for the help! I'm not sure if you saw the picture, but that's how I got it.... in a box.

I can usually put things back together if I take them apart.... But I didn't take this one apart. I have a friend coming over to help. I think we'll be OK.
