My Dana 30 front axle is leaking fluid from the back end where the drive shaft attaches to the yoke. Do I have to take everything apart to replace the seal or can I do that just by removing the yoke?

Just remove the yoke. 1 1/8" socket. Pull the yoke, pull the old seal. Clean the grove for the new seal and the splines on the shaft and the yoke. Tap in new seal, grease the outside of yoke and rubber surface of seal, put a little rtv silicone on the yoke spines. gently reinsert yoke and tightern. think it is some ridiculess amount of torque, like 200 ft lbs. Blow it all off with compressed air or wirebush it before taking it apart, and change the lube when done.

Toughest part is getting the pinion nut off, but a thin-walled socket and a 1/2" impact gun will usually do it. ;)

Used my impact for something real for the first time today (woohoo - air is great!).

Note that conventional (thin wall) sockets can break if used with an impact, so wear eye protection and use a Craftsman socket.

Deepwell impact sockets are thinner walled than the short ones. What I used (SK), no probs. The problem I had was getting one of the yokes off and then the seal out (tcase), didn't want to let go. Did all mine the same day, both axles and both outputs on the case.
