I have a dana 30 with disc brakes that I got from a junk yard about 2 years ago. I am almost done with everything for my swap.
The question I have is should I rebuild the calipers, get reman ones, or am I ok leaving them alone for now? Also should I replace the rubber hoses that go between the calipers and the steel lines?

    Thanks, jeremy

Have you been able to apply any pressure to them to see if they operate at all?

You may just want to go ahead and rebuild/replace them. that way you know they are all good to go.

Yup, I'd rebuild or replace them. Rebuilding is easy, there's not much to them. Piston, o-ring, and dust boot usually...

I'd check the prices on RockAuto.com for each - I expect I'd go with rebuilt calipers. I'd definitely go with a new master cylinder or drum brake wheel cylinders, but rebuilt calipers are probably ok.

IIRC the rebuilt calipers are routinely sleeved if they have had water in them. You won't be able to do that if you use the kits - and you'll need to take the calipers apart and inspect them to know if they can be rebuilt. Not worth the hassle and risk IMO.

Probably new brake hoses too - unless money was tight and the condition of the current hoses was excellent. You don't want to cheap out on brakes ... :coffee: :driving:

Yes, probably better just to buy rebuilt, especially if they haven't been in service for a while....
