I'm ready to swap Herm's bracket onto the frame but can't figure out where the bracket goes. Am I supposed to guess where in the frame rail it mounts? I feel real dumb right now.

The kit is supposed to come with instructions, did it have any? I'd call Herm.

There is an article in this in the tech library

on a side note: my mc (wagner, fits cj with dual wheels from 1967-71) had the 3/16" lines coming out of it, rather than the 5/16". If i had to do it over, i would have used banjo fittings instead of my fancy bending to fit the lines.

oh, i added about 5-6" of brake line to make the swap, as the lines for the 'fuirt jar' mc were too short.

The kit comes with an angled bracket that fits over the end of the clutch / brake cross tube. Remove the cotter pin on the C / B cross tube and the spacer ring / washer. Put this bracket on in place of the spacer. Next, put the large bracket that fits between the frame channel in place and slide it to the rear until the (2) 5/16 bolts line up that hold the bracket from the C/B tube, with the larger bracket that is now between the frame rails. That locates the bracket. Next, you will learn that you have to shorten your master cylinder push rod. Then, if you have an F-Head, you would do best to also order Herm's bango fitting kit. Even if you don't, you will need to adapt the larger master cylinder lines, with your original 3/16 lines. You would likely have had to cut the brace that supports the inner side of the C/B pivot tube. I rewelded mine to the underside of Herm's bracket after I had all in place. To gain clearance with the engine rear flange, I had to grind about 3/8 inch from the inside of the top frame channel to allow the master cylinder to go inboard a bit. Some of this is in his instruction sheet. It is sent along with the kit and is on his website I think.
