I am finally finishing up my motor and and getting close to starting so i am double checking a few things. First number one cyl. is pass side front correct? when I line up the timing marks on the cam sprocket and crank sprocket # 1 is not at tdc should it be right at the top of the cyl.?
    Thanks Steve

#1 cylinder is always the one closest to the front of the vehicle, if you look closely one bank is offset slightly behind the other.

As for your second question TDC is just that, Top Dead Center. So yes, the piston must be all the way "up" in order to truly be at TDC.

Thanks Steve, So should I adjust my cam sprocket and crank sprocket so its on tdc and ignore the marks on the sprockets? also it a double roller set up. So # 1 would be the drivers side front cyl.

TDC is driver side front. If your marks don't line up - you need to figure out why. They should line up to allow a proper advance if available.
