Rewired the Jeep last w-end with the EZ2Wire 14 circuit kit. Backed off putting the CS 130 alternator in 'til a later date. I knew I had more than I needed with 14 cir. kit. I have extra wiring for 3rd brake light, ele. fuel pump, a/c power, a/c blower, ele. cooling fan and a dome light. Also 2 radio wires, one switched and one not for the CB. The harness was over 3o ft. long uninstalled.
I now have a horn and fusebox for the 1st time and headlights that aren't yellow, even without a relay. Jeep starts easier and even seems to run better. This was the best upgrade I ever did R)R)R)!

It's a very satisfying feeling, to tackle that task and be able to see the results. It's an upgrade that's well worth the time and cost.
Congratulations on a job well done!! :tea:

nice work, best upgrade you can do on any vehicle over 20 yrs old. i built a wiring harness for mine little over a year ago. i was only going to do parts to accomodate high power headlights and offroad lights i added, along with a turn signal kit. the more i looked at my hacked up existing harness, the more i tore out. i ended up replacing every wire from it. everything has been over all better and cleaner since.

it is amazing how many previous owners just cut and run new wires, leave old ones to short and clutter etc in these rigs. all it takes is a good weekend and a little common sense to replace the whole thing and not need to worry about the crap catching fire from someone else's mistakes.

    nice work, have a

That's what I'm attemting next winter after the body goes back on. Would a 12 circuit be adequate for a stock 73? It's good to hear that the effort was worth your while!

good job:beer:. I did the same for my 6....felt daunting when I started, but huge satisfaction when completed. I still have some stray wires for future uses, only so much time in a year :)

I still haven't gotten around to doing mine. Other things got in the way. I'll probably attempt it either at the beginning or end of this summer. How many hours did it take you? Have you done this before??

Also.....Isn't my Jeep GORGEOUS!!! hahaha. Windshield is going on in a couple weeks.

This was a 1st for me and it took the w-end with a friend helping. Wiring the turn signal switch was a stumbling block. The turn signal switch runs the brake light switch too. This forum provided all the research info and then some. Thanks to all the knowledge archived here from people sharing their experience and hindsight.
I upgraded the brake switch with one from Napa, the one with the lever that rides on the brake pedal arm. Installed new dimmer, headlight and ignition switches and will upgrade the turn signal switch to one with a buildt in flasher when I find the one I want. I did adjust the rubber wheel so they are self cancelling now.
Probably could have used a 10 point circuit but the extra wires could be put to use for auxillary lighting or cooling fans.
I smoked my acc. wiring from the ign. switch back this winter, it just burned all on it's own, same with the back up light wire. Now I have all new 12 ga. wire with 14 ga. on low amp accessories. Nice 10 ga. wire for ign. and heavy draw applications. R):)R):)

When I rewired my '71, my first serious wiring job... I soldered every connection, had to ground every circuit separately (glass tub) I had 40 hrs into it IIRC. Most of it one to two hours at a time ;) :)

Took me 1 day to install the complete chassis harness from Painless Wiring and about 5 hours the following day to install the kit for the EFI. Funny how a re-wiring project sounds so horribly complicated but is really so easy, especially with the right kits. I recommend rewiring any older Jeep, for me I didn't think it made ant sense to wire a modern EFI system into a 28 year old harness that had been cut and spliced more time than were able to count.
    Time and cash well spent!

If you have a Spartan signal switch there is a rubber wheel on the top inner margin. The switch is attached to the column w/ a sliding base and needs to be adjusted so the wheel is in contact w/ the steering wheel to cancel.
If you are installing a modern radio you will need both. The unswitched feed is required to maintain your settings.:v6:

Most wires ar 12 or 14 gauge, depending on usage requirements. 10 gauge for ignition and alternator. Like most wiring kits, wires are marked every 6" or so with printed application. Mine had a horn relay but no headlight relay. Regular sized modern fuses nor minis. It has a cut off switch to diable the ignition. It's a universal harness in Chevy color code and stretches out about 30 ' long for use on a fullsized truck if needed. Weighs about 18 lbs.
The oversized wire is what attracted me. I found it on eBay, search Kwikwire or EZ2WIRE. With shipping is was $180.
