I've been carrying around a big plastic tool box (unsecured ) in the bed of the jeep for some time now to carry oil, antifreeze, recovery strap, chains, etc. and thinking about how to combine a back seat with a tool box. Finally came up with a plan, built it (over a couple of weeks) and installed this weekend. A little less room than the big box, but better organized and secure. :). I had some sheetmetal from the back of a metal wardrobe cabinet and bought a piece of 1 X 1 X 1/8" angle for the seat and back frame. I cut the sheetmetal with a jigsaw, bent it up with an a heavy piece of angle iron and hammer and welded it together with my new MIG welder . I still need to make the seat bottom and back (3/4" plywood covered with 3/4" foam and material to match my front seats, but that will come later. I originally made the top rail of the seat frame square with the side, but changed my mind and cut it off to make it rounded.

Very, very nice. Well thought out. How did you bend the seat back? Slice, slice, slice and weld?

Looks great! Would a fold and tumble style rattle too much? Sure looks clean and sturdy.

Didn't try a fold and tumble because of additional latches (if you're talking about pivoting the seat back down before lifting lid) needed to secure the seat back. I wanted something simple and it worked out well with the seat back frame resting on the front seats. I still have enough floor space for the occasional trip to the grocery store.
    No rattles :)

Still thinking about that - trying to figure out how to mount 6 x 9 speakers up in the rollcage.;)

Sounds like literal "head-bangers" to me...

I'd go with some separate components in the new toolbox - it'll be a nicer enclosure for sound even with stuff in it.

Have the front louvered for a nice stealthy approach...;)
