Everytime I go for a drive with my cj it idles fine while warming up but gets starved for air at high RPMS and sputters. To get home I end up taking the thing off. then it runs fine. I have cleaned this filter a number of times and swaped it once from my flaps. still same issue. so I assume I need a high flow air filter.
:?Does anyone make high flow filters for Cj's?

:?It seems pretty small anyway, can I get a bigger bracket for the top of my carter? and go to a much bigger set up?

is the carburetor still the yf? if so, i can't imagine that air flow is being hampered by the filter. how about the choke? is it fully open once the engine warms up?

What kind of air filter are you running, Stock paper element? Is it the stock enclosed air filter housing with an air horn?
Just food for thought, If you are running a stock air box it may not be the air cleaner at all, May want to double check the float level in the carb..........If the wet fuel level is on the high side it may be getting to much fuel at wide open throttle ( and throughout the range usually ), Taking the air filter off may be leaning the mixture just enough to make one think its the filter.
Its possible you may need a new needle and seat assembly, It may be worn a little and not able to regulate under high fuel flow conditions.
It may be time for a carb overhaul, possibly including the float.

Removing the air filter is the equivalent of recalibrating the air fuel mixture, We need to find what caused it to be off calibration.
