I rebuilt my 225 last year for $1449. I pulled it, took it apart, and took it to the machine shop. All cylinders bored, all new pistons, all new valves & springs, all new bearings. They assembled the short block for me. I did the final assembly and installed it. I couldn't be happier with this engine.

A complete rebuild kit is only $360 at Autozone. Good kit I have had it in my Jeep for 2 1/2 years.

Yeah, no more or less than any other engine. Cost and amount of machine work you need will be the bigest variable.

Just FYI I just ordered all the parts for my jeep and am currently in the $1400 ball park with maching work and parts ( I did go with a competition cam kit )

Also I contacted AZ after I started and they have a message that comes on when you look up the kit and call customer service that they are no longer supplying AZ with engine kits?
I guess AZ used an outside company to source the kits.
Anyway, I would highly recommend Tim at TA performance the only thing that I didnt buy from him was the Cam Kit (260H) from competition cams and the hardened valve seats. Also keep in mind that the Buick 300 parts interchange as far as rods, pistons etc so you may get a better price by purchasing the parts for the 300 as opposed to the 225. Its a bad feeling to have the engine shop tell you that they havent seen a 225 and that it would probably be best if you track down the parts yourself. They also said it would be cheaper to build a 454 (part more common) but hey, I have learned alot. I should start putting mine back together in a couple of weeks when all the parts come in.

    Parts List
Competition Cams 260H Kit $300 Competition Cams
New Bearing throughout $80 TA Performance
Hardened valve seats $36 Engine Shop
    New valves $165 TA Performance
high compression pistons 10-1 $240 TA Performance

    reground crank
    valve job
    sleeves
    etc etc
    reconditioned rods $600
I cant remember the rest, but I am looking for a 4 barrel intake, holley 660 center dump, and headers

The beauty of it all is that when I get the motor built I will still need a fuel cell, steering conv, disc brake conv, and some tires

My wife loves the fact that I keep saying I got the jeep for free!

Parts for the 350 are even cheaper. This is a common rationale for swapping in a small bolck Chevy (SBC) in almost anything. I'd expect it's a false economy though, after you add in all the extra costs of any engine swap.

BTW the 4.3L Chevy V6 parts are really cheap too... just saying. The 4.3L fits in the Jeep engine bay almost as well as the 225.

Here is the part number for the Autozone kit and the current price. BU225ME01 $391.99

It is still listed and they say it will ship in 3-5 days according to my local Autozone.
If your interested I would check at your local AZ and not call.

Unless you need something really special or are building a hi-po motor TA performance is gonna be high priced, my valves at the local shop were almost 1/2 the price of TA.

I have about $1250-$1300 in my whole motor,
    Autozone kit - $383
Melling Hi volume oil pump - $49
Edelbrock roller timing set - $89
    New valves (all) - $84
    New Springs (all) - $45
Engine paint - $20 or so
Assembly lube and gasket sealer around $20
Tanked, bored, honed, magnafluxed, freeze plugs installed
3 angle valve job, hardened seats, heads assembled with seals.
    Machine work was $546
All of the above numbers are rounded to the nearest dollar.
There were a few other misc costs that brought it close to $1300
My rods were fine as well as my crank, I also had my flywheel resurfaced.
    I did the assembly work.
My Carb had been rebuilt about 2 years earlier so that wasn't in there either.

I dont know how to use the quote

I contacted my local AZ and they stated that yes they do have it and it will ship in 3-5days, however when you go one step further ask them to verify availability they will tell you that the supplier is either out of stock or no longer making that kit.. Just some info I want to confirm for you.

I just tried to order it at AZ.com online and got the following... :(

"A portion of your order is unavailable at this time. The quantity of the unavailable item(s) has been set to current availability. Please click the "Update Quantity" button to refresh your shopping cart...."

I would like to rebuild the 225 but if I do a swap it will be a 4.3L.
Lots of good info, the AZ kit sounds good but sounds a little up in the air on whether you can get it or not. Thanks for the info and continuing info is appreciated. Chris:D

I was told when I ordered a kit for my 231 that I needed to go to the shop and order it. Of course, they screwed it up and ordered a standard set when my block was bored .030 over... They swapped parts with the stuff they had on the shelf and fixed it though.

Please think twice before you do an engine swap. I think originality makes any Jeep worth more. The 225 is a great engine with lots of power!:):v6:

Probably not going to do a swap since you guys and research says parts are easy to get and not off the mark in price. R) Chris
