I am real close to puting the front axle in.
It is spring under with new BDS yj's3.5
I am using square u bolts under the spring and plates on top.

    The axle is a D30 W/T from a CJ7.

It has the stock narrow perchs UA and some wide perchs OA on it now.

I have 1 set of wide perchs new to use 2.5's

My plan is to cut off the stock ones and tack weld the new ones on. UA.

I am thinking I could leave the wide 2.5 perchs on top there and then make some .5 inch thick plates to mount on top of them to put the square ubolts through.

I dont want to move the knuckles but want the best castor I can get.
    Without comprimising the pinion angle.
I have been doing alot of research and It seems the pinion would go down 2 degrees at cruising speed.

So this would make the castor also move right.?

Anybody have some real world number's I could shoot for??

I have been reading all afternoon and have some thoughts.

With regular drivelines the pinions should be parallel to the yoaks on the Tcase.

And it seems the pinions move up or down respectivly under load.

So on the front I need the pinion up 2 degrees from leval with the Tcase output.

On the bench this gives me 7 degrees castor on the d30 I have.
And then with it all in the jeep tack weld the perchs on at the 2 degree up pinion setting.

    Does this sound right?
I think I am over complicating it..

Good question, wish I had an answer for you.
Problem is I'm doing the same thing!
Some of the members said they had to add 5deg shims when they converted to the D30, I think your basicly doing the same thing just moving the perches (no shims).
That is my plan any way is to move the perches and reweld.
I, like you would like to know ideal rotation ie: best steering, handling

D30 NT is what I put in. No degree shims and I am at 6 castor.

DS angle - look at tom woods drive lines - it talks about how to measure and the types of angles for the drive lines. For normal yokes you want the SHAFTs to be parallel. That is what you set with the perches. You will set the castor with the knuckle fittings on the axle tubes (where your king pins are located).

Keep and look at these two items separate – yes they can impact each other if you don’t have at least ONE you can move. You don’t want your pinion angle pointing down – you have a variance on what it can be up (I think its @8deg but don’t quote me). That will impact your castor if you can not move the knuckles.

    Clear as mud?
